Funny you should bring up this topic. I am in the exact same place. Is it the job or the boss thats driving you nuts? If its the latter, my advice is to hang in there because a micro manager will eventually either be complained about so much that managment has to address it or they will let him/her go or demote.
If this is not the case and its the job itself, I would definately let them let you go so you can collect. Can't do that if you get fired, unless it for gross negligence.
I feel for you green I am so disgusted with my job right now. Loved it down here the first year until they promoted my boss. She is making everyone's life miserable and I am the only one who's spoken up and let her have it. She has not spoken to me in weeks. How mature. She has moved on to another co-worker, in fact its the co-worker who's job she took and got her demoted. She picked the wrong person once again. This co-worker happens to be the personal assistant to the owner of the company. She has spoken to him about whats going on. Big meeting on Wednesday. Problem is the son of the owner (who promoted her and gave her all this power) is calling the meeting. The meeting could go either way. If he tells us if we don't like it to find another job I will be the first one to raise my hand and ask for two months severnce and move on.
You could try that approach as well. Nothing sucks more than hating your job. Good luck!

Letting them "let me go" is the exact same thing as getting fired.
In my case it's the micromanagement that is part of the issue - but it's not just my manager - it's the corporate culture there and not likely to change.
Plus, management has established strict employee expectations and goals which are near impossible to reach, let alone maintain. They also keep piling on and piling on the deadlines which, in my opinion, in this business, should be way more flexible than they are.
And I can tell you the tension and stress on that floor, with collectors like myself, is so thick that it's suffocating. Not one person in my department likes working there.
Sad thing is, I'm good at what I do, have a great rapport with customers, etc. I used to love this job and coming to work each day.
Not anymore.

Sorry I meant to say you CAN collect if you get fired. But if you get fired for gross negligence, you can not collect. Either way I'm at the point where I don't care. I'll collect my pension and be a bartender on the beach somewhere if I have to. Life is too short to be stuck in a miserable job.
on the other hand, now is not the best time to be looking for work. You might want to hunker down and try to ride out the storm (all while looking for something new on the side).
Just don't get yourself kicked out before you have something new to go to.
Even if you CAN collect benefits, most employers are not gonna look too favourably on you if you got fired from the last job. I know that i've thrown someone's resume in the 'no' pile for a lot less.
Ag you are right, I have two recruiters looking for me and I'm really glad I'm not in CT right now where the unemployeed are MANY...I'm gonna stick it out but its not easy. Unemployment will not cover my mortgage payment and I don't want to have to pull my pension until its worth more. Hows the job market down under these days????

well, we've been hit like everyone else, but not as bad. I think the official unemployment figure is something like 5.8%, which is high for us, but still much better than lots of places.
We hae strong worker protections, a livable minimum wage (currently about $14/hr), and a good social safety net.
I'd be lying if i said these aren't part of the reason i like living here.
