No Triple Crown winner this year

I missed the race due to V's birthday party.

Your winner in the Preakness Stakes is Bernardini.

Barbaro, the Kentucky Derby winner, broke his leg shortly after leaving the gate and needs major surgery. Needless to say, that horse's racing career is over.

Which is sad if you like horses and racing. Kind of puts a damper on the winning horse's 5 1/2 length victory. If there's to be no Triple Crown winner, you'd like to see the Derby winner get beat fair and square and not pull up lame with an injury.

The people who run the Belmont Stakes (on June 10) must be bummin'. No chance of a Triple Crown again and now this race is just another event on the racing schedule.

Here is espn.com's story of the race.

This is the espn.com story on Barbaro's injury.
