If you've got the money, I guess it's okay

I'm eating my lunch in the break room at work the other day, glancing at a copy of the October 3rd weekly "In Touch" magazine, sitting on the table in front of me. This is one of those Hollywood celebrity dish & gossip magazines. Flipping through it, I saw a story that I found simply amazing. It was about the extra expenses that Britney Spears purchased for her trip to the hospital to have her baby (which she had on September 14th) at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. She stayed in room 5123 and took over the entire fifth floor of The BirthPlace.

Check out what this magazine esimated that she spent:

$40,000 on eight rooms in the hospital. A $3,000 room for herself plus seven other rooms at $1,500 each for family and friends to use.

$100,000 on a 40 guard around the clock security detail and a police escort to the hospital.

$30,000 for room service meals for herself and guests at any time.

$5,000 for a photographer to take the baby's first official photo.

$6,000 for two nurses and a lactation consultant to teach the princess how to breast feed the kid.

$7,200 for a professional chef to cook meals for the princess and hubby in a private kitchen.

Can you believe that? Isn't there a better way to spend your money, Britney? Did you happen to donate some of your wad to help victioms of Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, who are from your home state? I hope you did...

Another tidbit from this same magazine reports that George W. Bushwhacker scribbled a note to Condi during a recent UN session. The note asked if it were possible if he could take a trip to the loo. The magazine hired Paul Sassi, a handwriting analyst who said that the president's printing shows that he's a take charge leader. He writes: "His large block printing indicates the clarity to state what he really wants. The capital I shows an independent ego and the self-motivation to take action in a crisis - even when it's his own bathroom break."

Take what you will from the handwriting experts' comments...

Spears has the right to spend her money in whatever stupid way she chooses.

The handwriting analysis thing is laughable to me. Maybe because mine was analyzed and the expert said it indicated I should have been born a Vietnamese prostitute named Ming Lee.

The whole post is laughable to me.

Of course Spears has the right to spend her money how she chooses. But for someone who will probably never earn that kind of money in five lifetimes, it's kind of silly.

I posted that thing about Bush because it's funny to me. I've never had a high opinion of W, and this makes me think he's barely competent enough to make a decision if he should go to the bathroom or not, which is scary considering the position he holds.

Don't worry. Bush is surrounded by people who know what they're doing-much like his hero, gifted character actor Ronald Reagen.

Actually that sounds about right for hospital pricing - and who could knock that yummy green jello they give you...

What's the deal with the extortionary prices they charge you anyway? Back in the bad days when I lived in the United Theocracy of America I had to go to hospital once (and being like 45 million others I didn't have insurance!) and what they charge you is outrageuos. For comparrison, here in oz when my daughter was born, her mum had to have a c-section, 4 days in hospital recovering plus follow up visits. Again without insurance. What it cost us: $0. That's civilisation.

that is good.

unfortunately medical expenses will never be free here in the USA.
Sounds like the missus got a great deal.

The USA was founded on Judeo Christian ideology. How many ither countries have "In God We Trust" or some reference to deity on every piece of its currency?

Well, since she hired a private chef, I doubt she or any of her entourage had to eat the nasty hospital food.

Actually, though the dead white guys who started the joint were undoubtedly from the judeo christian background thing and held some strong beliefs, I seem to remember something in history about a seperation of church and state - something about a bill of rights or some such nonsense.

"How many ither countries have "In God We Trust" or some reference to deity on every piece of its currency?"

That's just my point - only a theocracy would do something like that.

by the way...

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."

-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

I knew you would mention the separation of church and state.

That part of the bill of rights was added because the founding fathers knew how corrupt the church leadership in Europe had become during the middle ages thru the reformation due to the government's involvement and they didn't want that same thing to happen here.

Separation of church and state means that the government can't regulate the church as long as it's members don't break the law.
But it does not mean that members of the church can't be involved in government.

And I never said that all of the founding fathers held to the Christian viewpoint, but clearly most of them did.

At least four times in the Declaration of Independence, supposedly written by Thomas Jefferson, is God or reference to God made.
